“Then he arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” — Mark 4:39 (NLT).
In Mark 4:35-41, the disciples found themselves in the middle of a violent storm, panicking as waves crashed into their boat. Yet, Jesus was peacefully asleep. When they woke Him, terrified, He rebuked the wind and commanded the waves, “Peace! Be still!” Instantly, calm prevailed. This story teaches us that peace isn’t found in the absence of storms but in the presence of Jesus. Like the disciples, we too face life’s storms—adversity, uncertainty, and overwhelming situations. However, peace comes from trusting that Jesus is with us, even in the chaos. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to pray and give our worries to God, assuring us that His peace will guard our hearts and minds. The Greek word for “guard” describes a vigilant soldier standing watch. This shows how God actively protects us, His precious treasure, through the peace given by the Holy Spirit. This peace doesn’t just soothe; it also defends us from fears and anxieties. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit helps us stay calm, focused, and secure, even in life’s most difficult situations. If you’re facing a storm today, know that you’re not alone. Jesus is in the boat with you—trust Him and receive His peace!
